Dan Stevens Reteams With Adam Wingard for Action Thriller ‘Onslaught’
Dan Stevens, who memorably starred in Adam Wingard’s thriller The Guest, is reuniting with the filmmaker for his newest action thriller, Onslaught.
Adria Arjona is starring in the feature which is being made by A24 as well as Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company. Shooting begins November in New Mexico.
The feature is already a reteaming of the Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire filmmaker with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two wrote the cult hits You’re Next and Guest. The latter was a key Hollywood step for Stevens, who at that point was known mainly for his work in the popular British series Downton Abbey.
Many details for Onslaught are being kept in an underground experimental facility, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller.
Arjona is starring as a mother who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base. Pereira will play a character called The Butcher, and bring his set of skills – including anaconda chokes and roundhouse kicks – to his meaty role.
In what sounds like a chewy supporting role, Stevens will play a German scientist working on the experiments that escape.
Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett will produce Onslaught under their Ryder Picture Company banner alongside A24. Also producing is Alexander Black for Lyrical Media. Wingard and manager Jeremy Platt will also produce, via their new shingle Breakaway Civilization, along with Barrett.
Lyrical and A24 will co-finance, with A24 handling worldwide releasing. Lyrical’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers will serve as executive producers with A24.
Stevens is having a very genre-filled 2024. He already reteamed with Wingard for Godzilla x Kong, which grossed $571 million worldwide when it was released in March. Before that he was part of the ensemble of Universal’s vampire thriller Abigail and in the summer starred in Neon’s horror flick Cuckoo.
The actor is repped by CAA, UK’s Julian Belfrage Associates, and Peikoff Mahan Law Office.
